Not feeling very much like cooking tonight, so it might be takeout ...
Finally, some much needed rain! This was taken with my iPhone yesterday afternoon during our drenching downpour. Lots of surface water and lots of runoff downhill. It was a challenge trying to take photos with two dogs under my feet, no matter which way I turned. They had to be right beside me because there was thunder. I cannot begin to understand why it was better to follow me around than to stay in the dry safety of the house, but that's what they did. Thankfully, it didn't take long for the water to dissipate once it stopped raining. You can see the new enclosure we built for Houdini. There is no way Bella can climb this fence. The side door to the art studio opens onto this area so they have an outside and a safe inside spot as well. Both of them are getting used to this new arrangement and at least we know they are safe and secure when we go out. Hopefully this means no more calls from strangers letting me know they have picked up my dog in the middle of the road at night! Just a photo of my cottage garden attempt - it is enjoying the good soaking it's getting, and I'm enjoying not having to water constantly. Not that I mind watering, but I was conscious of how low the water tanks were getting. This rain has been great for topping all the rain water tanks up. I think we're in for a few more days of rain which will be nice.

Solstice: Summer | Winter | Turning PointJune 21, the shortest day of the year. I was really hoping for a good sunset for this prompt but no such luck. I was out throwing the balls for the dogs and had my camera handy. Every now and then I'd take a photo of the sky hoping for some interesting colour or clouds. But this is about as good as it got in the afternoon. A little bit of editing to lighten it up and show a bit more definition in the clouds. Fresh Air: Scented | Clean | Outside As most of you probably have worked out, Steve and I just love being outdoors and cherish having space, trees, and hills around us. We are on acreage here, and there have been quite a few times that we wish our neighbours weren't quite so close. That probably explains our tree planting frenzy - trying to block out any sign of neighbours and pretend it's just us surrounded by trees and hills. Steve and I often dream about having a 100 or more acres of land (preferably with lots of trees, a running creek and town water), with no-one in sight. At times we have even gone so far as to look at large parcels of land that are available around here. Unfortunately, reality takes precedence! At this point in our lives we still need easy access to the motorway for work commitments, the ability to visit our family easily and we do enjoy the benefits and rewards being near a city brings, but just far enough out that we can easily escape. This is the view that greets me as I come over the hill and head towards home. I was literally coming home and thinking about the prompt, saw this view in front of me and pulled over. All I had was the iPhone and I snapped a view shots through the windscreen. We've had a bit of most welcome rain over the past few days and I just loved the clouds in the sky. I also liked how the road looks like it goes on forever as it just seems to disappear into the distance. In reality in ends about a kilometre down (I know cause I've run down there from the house) with a school in front, a pedestrian bridge over the Albert river to the left, and back to our suburb to the right. But I can pretend, right? I really wanted to bring out the clouds in this and accent the leading lines of the road. I couldn't quite get the processing the way I had in mind, but the more I work in Lightroom, the more I will learn. Oh, and being on acreage there's definitely plenty of fresh air here! iPhone details: ISO 40, 4.12mm, f/2.2, 1/10000 sec. Cropped and processed in Lightroom 5.
In The Air: Action | Look Up | Clouds
I spent quite a bit of time this afternoon watching the setting sun, with my camera at the ready, hoping for some interesting colours and cloud formations for today's prompt. From the many I took I chose the ones that had the most striking looking clouds and then did some post-processing in Lightroom - just for fun. I played with a whole range of presets and then manipulated those further. The aim being to emphasize the sky. I did like the rays of sunshine and the starburst I managed to capture in some of the shots. Of course, now I don't know which one to choose. Isn't it interesting how much difference it makes to a photo when it's edited? It really isn't a case of what you see, but what the photographer has in mind and is trying to convey in the photo. |
